See? Already I'm bored with "getting to work". You can only describe the vagaries of public transportation so often......

Last night I decided to wander around Tribeca. I wanted to have supper at 'Ino but it looked too precious, so I went into Ditch Plains instead. Lovely. Sat at the bar, ordered a bottle of Alsace Reisling (Rob the bartender tells me the wine list is great because they don't do a big mark-up) and whip out the single diner's best friend, the crossword puzzle.

I started off with a cucumber, cherry tomato and white anchovie salad. Very delicious, and for me, very adventurous. The only downfall? Too many capers. Me no like capers.

Next on the slightly weird list was the chicken liver mousse covered with schmaltz. Schmaltz you say? Yes, schmaltz. And me, a gentile. Pretty darn good that schmaltz.

The last course of the night was the good 'ol shrimp cocktail. Who doesn't like shrimp? These ones were big and fat and juicy. The cocktail sauce was rich and spicy with cracked pepper and horseradish. Since it's so rare that I come across horseradish, I asked for a bit extra. In fact, it was then too much.

Although the menu tempted me with yellow cake and chocolate icing, the wine was going to my head, and the bar was getting crowded. Also, my nice bartender Rob was being lost in the noise of his colleague who was busy schmoozing the patrons to attend his loft party "11,000 square feet, I used to own my own bar, blah blah"

I left the restaurant, decided a walk would help burn off the alcohol, and turned the corner. And was promptly lost. Two drunk dials later for directions, I found my way and made it to the WTC station...then realized I had left a bag with my new sandals on the stoop where I had drunk dialed. All the way back, bag still there *whew* and off I go again.

Made it home safe and sound.

Whew. It's super warm round these parts.

The commute was a little faster today. I think it had to do with less traffic on the roads, speed demon at the wheel of the bus, and good connections with the Path train. Everyone around me smelled shower fresh this morning! It was lovely. Myself? I had dabbed a little Egyptian Musk on my pulse points, dontcha know, so I was smelling fresh too.

WTC station was calmer this morning. I took this pic of the construction going on (or NOT going on) and this pic to try and give some sense of the scale of the pit, and finally this shot of building.

Massive, innit?

I was listening to Marvin Gaye on the iPod, and I'll tell you, a lot of his stuff? sounds the same to me. MG was the second choice, I would have been listening to Grant Lawrence's CBC3 podcast but it hadn't updated. Dommage.

I like to pull out my camera on the subway and take pics of stuff. What I'm really trying to do is take pics of funny looking people, but not be obviuosly taking pics of them. How would I explain that? "Hi, can I take your pic for my blog? Why? Oh, just cause you look weird". No. that wouldn't go over well.

Today I just took a picture of the contents of my purse instead. Cause I like to say and write and hear and read "purse".

I think my new blog will be about getting to work in the morning. I'm sure I'll bore of this quickly, so I'll switch it up with 'leaving work to get home', then maybe throw in 'grocery shopping'. That'll win over the public!

Getting to work today:

Wake up at 6:58am in a tangle of sweaty nightgown and sheets. It was bracingly fresh in the bedroom last night so I'd pulled the duvet cover over me, and of course, I'd never shoved it off me.

Make coffee - thank god I had the foresight to grind the beans last night because we have house guests! Sean and Sarah arrived late last night (I was already asleep) and I didn't want them to think that they were in a mining town. Of course, my consideration was thrown out the window when the super started banging on the door. I've never seen him once since we moved in, he's certainly never come to our door, and he's banging on the door to deliver at package at 7:10am? Wierd. Apartment is quiet again, all is well, and the phone rings. My brother from Vancouver is calling(which is three hours behind me so it's like 4am. He's drunk and dialing), but I can't talk to him, I gotta get ready!

Eat some cherries and yogurt

and fix coffee.

Jump in shower. Make sure to shave legs, 'cause it's skirt weather. Iron skirt.

Comb hair, brush teeth, get dressed and go.

Get halfway down hall and remember that cell phone is on charger. Go back, check purse (or pocketbook as they say here) for bus card, wallet, camera, lipstick - ok, got 'em.

Get to bus stop and it's a beauty day - the bus is just turning the corner! Get to Journal Square and people leave bus in orderly fashion! I have very high hopes for this day so far.

Get to WTC and human traffic is moving nicely. No fisticuffs on the escalator.

Get to Brooklyn in record time and buy coffee from Amir. I have correct change today, which is another surpise.

I'm at work. It's 9:10am.
